PASO FINOS ENRICH OLD SPANISH DAYS PARADE
HOLLYWOOD PASO FINOS made their third appearance last Friday in the Old Spanish Days Parade, held every year in Santa Barbara, California. Known as the largest equestrian Parade in the world the parade features period costumes with Spanish themes.
Hollywood Paso Finos is a performance equestrian group that uses drill team routines, dancers and music to create entertaining acts that also display the versatility of the Paso Fino horse. In Santa Barbara their historically accurate costumes ranged from early Renaissance to the 17th Century showing the Spanish and European influences on early America culture.
The riders included a knight in armor riding a horse in a full Comparison, a member of the Royal Guard, two beautifully dressed ladies and two Spanish Conquistadors. The riders, actors Tom Mongomery and Tony Parvino of Imperial Knights Productions, film director Martha Coolidge and trainer Raul Matos of El Rancho de Cache, Gerardo Matos of Rancho de Milagro and youth rider Madison Bray entertained the large crowds along State street. The Champion Paso Finos were La Promesa, La Actriz, Imponencia, El Tirador, Hermosillo and Nicoletta who wowed the crowd with her fast fino gait. Besides being sponsored by the California Paso Fino Horse Association the group is also sponsored by Western Costumes of Hollywood and by the ranches and members of the group who contribute time and money to bring these acts to life.
Parades are a wonderful way to share with younger generations the fun and interests one has enjoyed in life. The actors, dancers and horse professionals in Hollywood Paso Finos enjoy bringing a little part of history to life when we perform in each parade and performance.
